Scroll through the calendar below to view upcoming events and classes. Please note tht classes are planned a quarter in advance.
“By attending “C.H.A.C.O Dog Training & Behavior Consulting LLC” classes we learned a lot and so did our standard poodle Dash. Almudena has a first-class facility with a large field for classes, within a larger securely fenced area that readily adapts to the wide range of activities she incorporates in her teaching. She is a personable and caring individual as well as a very knowledgeable professional totally committed to helping owners and their dogs.
The classes are usually small, 4 owners with their dogs, which allows some one-on-one time with Almudena when needed, and the classes are nonthreatening and fun for the dog. With her extensive knowledge, she is able to address any special problems encountered. For example, our dog had spent the first nine months of his life in a kennel being mostly ignored. Almudena really helped socialize Dash and he’s become a confident, happy dog, who likes to play and he enjoys the company of other dogs and people.” – Robb & Kate Palmer, Tesuque, NM

From participants of the Developing the Confident Dog class.
“Thanks so much for the excellent recall class that Roxie and I attended. I really enjoyed it. You teach important concepts in interesting ways, and your class is a very different experience than other classes I have taken over the years. It was very helpful and thought provoking.” – Patty Sciarrotta & Roxie
**ONGOING** In order for Puppy Playtime to meet, enough puppies must be signed up by previous Wednesday.
NOTE: THERE IS NO PUPPY PLAYTIME ON JUNE 3rd!!
Puppy playtime is a vital activity by which your puppy will continue to practice bite inhibition. When puppies play with one another they give each other feedback as to the pressure of their “play” bites. If a puppy bites too hard, the playmate will most likely screech and stop the play as a warning to the play- biting pup that the pressure is too much and not tolerated. Thus the puppies learn to handicap the pressure of their (play) bite.
If your puppy ever bites as an adult dog but he/she learned proper bite inhibition, most likely there will be very little to no damage done because of excessive bite pressure. Bite Inhibition is learned only while dogs are young puppies (roughly to 4 1/2-5 months of age) thus the urgency of teaching them when very young. It is important to realize that ALL dogs will bite if there is no better option to get the message across when feeling threatened or scared.
We are happy to announce this new service! Puppy Playtime at CHACO’s hub in Tesuque. Ongoing, held twice monthly, on the first and last Saturday of each month from 10-10:45am. Registration closes: Wed. March 25th at 5pm.
Class Description: Adolescence is a transitional period that varies from pup to pup. During this stage your puppy will begin to “test” new boundaries (and you) and become more interested in other dog friends and what the environment has to offer.
Basic Obedience is here to help you maintain your adolescent social-graces and give you the know-how so that you can continue to reinforce the behaviors that you want in your dog. You will learn how to reward your dog for behaviors around the home and on “the go.” Special attention will be given to typical adolescent behavior such as: “selective-hearing” when it comes to leaving undesirable items, avoiding you at all cost, exuberance (jumping, mouthing, pulling on leash, lack of impulse control: dashing through doors, unable to sit/stay or down/stay when requested.
The Details: Class is open to 4 dogs and their handlers.
Dates & Time: Six, 1 hr. on site classes. March 28th, April 4th, SKIP April 11th,

Introduction to Parkour:
Registration closes Wed. April 1st, 2020.
3 spots left
As described by the International Dog Parkour Association (www.dogparkour.org) Dog Parkour is thought of as urban agility. It is a fun activity that teaches dogs to safely and confidently engage with obstacles in the environment. Dogs are taught how to climb, balance, jump among other activities. I would add that Dog Parkour can double as a fantastic and quick way to engage your dog mentally and physically. This class is ideal for dogs that need a “job,” energetic dogs (that are driving their people craa-zy!) as well as dogs that need to learn to enjoy novel things.
In this introductory course we will work on having dogs climb, balance, step backwards and go around.
Requirements:
Open to 4 handlers and their dogs ages 5 months onward
Dogs are comfortable working around people and other dogs on leash. No lunging, growling or excessive barking.
Required Vaccinations:
Rabies, DHLPP (distemper & parvo) or titer test. Proof of vaccination required at first class.
The Details:
Saturdays: April 4th, (skip Sat. 11th) 18th, 25th and May 2nd 2020. First session is orientation without dogs. Class held at C.H.A.C.O.’s hub in Tesuque. Directions will be sent upon registration.

Puppies must continue to play with other puppies to develop their social skills. Among them, bite- inhibition, which refers to the pressure the dog exercises when bitting. Bite-inhibition is one of the most critical skills any dog should learn, and puppy playtime is the best way to teach it.
The Details:
Open to four parents and four puppies between the ages of 8-14 weeks.
While this is not a puppy class, we will be practicing specific skills with the puppies. Puppies and their parents will learn appropriate play, call their puppy from playmates, and settle among other skills.
Almudena will be able to answer general questions about housetraining, play-bitting, and the like.
All present MUST wear a mask for the duration of the playtime. If you do not want to wear a mask, please do not sign up. The class will be held in a secure OUTSIDE area. We will be practicing social distancing.

New puppy at home? Join other puppy parents for supervised play time between the pups and socialization with people and their environment as your puppy learns about balance, impulse control, and attention by learning fitness exercises appropriate for young pups.
In addition, puppy parents will learn about their pup’s play style, recognize good play from puppy play that might not be appropriate, and teach how to re-engage with their pups in a distracting environment.
